Church Garden News

It’s time to think about gardening! Please join us by either having your own garden plot or helping with the garden and providing for others. It is very rewarding when the garden is able to give to those who are unable to have a garden or on limited means. We all know how important vegetables and fruits are in our diet; to make those available through the garden for others is what we strive to do.

When we have visitors at church they frequently ask about the garden or want to see the garden. It is nice to have members and visitors tour the garden and share what is grown from the garden. So think about joining the gardening crew; we need your help and it benefits you with fellowship and exercise. Imagine walking with God in the Garden of Eden; why not in our church garden?

Debbie and John Hermens have been helpful with good advice, and bags of compost to enrich the soil. Paula Palmer donated most of her garden tools and a small wheelbarrow when she moved in 2011. (Paula, apologies for not getting our thanks to you sooner!)

Does anyone have a large wheelbarrow they would like to donate for the garden? No more tomato cages, please; they don’t give enough support to the tomatoes. If anyone has connections to get wood chips or sawdust, we could use those items also.

There are many great gardeners in our church. Would anyone be interested in starting a seed exchange, or even a plant exchange? We have donated plants and have received plants so keep this in mind when you need plants for your garden.

Perhaps this year we could construct a green house or covered tunnels to keep some of the bugs away as well as protect the new seedlings.

Think green, garden, giving, fellowship, and health!
